Born on April 22, 1951, a native of Sancti Spiritus.
Performs his musical studies at the provincial art school in Cienfuegos, then continuous professional development school Ignacio Cervantes in Havana.
He began his career in 1975 in the musical group The acheré of the Isle of Youth. From then until 1983 he worked with groups of various genres such as BC, set Alborada, Pello the Afrocán, all Latinos, the whole group Saratoga and Los Barbas.
In April 1983 he joined the orchestra Los Van Van, remaining in her uninterruptedly until now running the trombone and drum pad (electronic system that has expanded the range of rhythmic cells and timbral), which introduced in the grouping and Cuban music, thereby achieving rhythms and timbres that enriched the Cuban polyrhythms in dance music and has positively influenced various groups. With this instrument he participated as a percussionist in 1998 in a select band of musicians representing the most significant of Cuban popular dance music in the '90s.
He has participated many times in movies, videos, documentaries and has been carrying the legacy of Cuban music with the group Los Van Van on 5 continents, performing in prestigious venues such as The Olympia in Paris, the Sydney Opera House, Theatre London Opera, Carnegie Hall in NY among others. In 2000 he received with Los Van Van, a Grammy award for best salsa album recorded by solo, duo or group and other awards within and outside the country.
He has also successfully participated in many festivals in Cuba and abroad. In Cuba festivals like Benny Moré, Varadero, Jazz Plaza in Havana. Outside the country, at the Festival of Milan, San Sebastian Film Festival and Montreal jazz festivals such as Tokyo, Playboy Jazz Festival in Los Angeles, and North Sea Jazz Festival in Holland to name a few.
It is a sport lover, he was a footballer and defended three times the shirt of the former province of Las Villas as a central defender in national championships in school and youth level. He says he feels great respect and admiration for athletes of all sports and is a fan of Cuban athletes, wherever they are, constantly follows the NBA, football and ball as part of the Cuban identity.
He is fascinated cook and says very successful practice of culinary art.
Although not a big drinker, likes to enjoy a good drink of old Havana Club, not to try other delicious drinks.
Based on their studies, experiences and work in Cuban popular music, he has participated in workshops related to Los Van Van and has lectured to groups from various countries, interested in learning more about our music genres, so it always stays investigating to bring knowledge of our musical culture to all corners that are possible.
